Market Square Park in Cleveland’s Ohio City was crowded on September 7, 2017. Nearly 250 people attended a candlelight vigil to support those who could be affected by the end of DACA.

DACA participants,  called DREAMers after legislation called the DREAM Act(Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) would have give them a path to citizenship, but that proposed legislation failed in Congress, giving way to the creation of the DACA program.

President Barack Obama created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2012, giving unauthorized immigrants who came to the USA before age 16 a chance to stay if they meet conditions of education and avoiding criminal conviction.

Fairview Park Democratic Club members Pat Despins and John and Susan Streitel participated in the DACA Vigil, representing our Club among the many groups in attendance.
