February 2018 Fairview Park Dems Meeting Wrap-Up

02 Feb

Fairview Park Dems Club President Troy Greenfield called the February 2018 meeting to order and we then recited together the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.”

Those sacred words…that “Pledge of Allegiance”…bring to mind the intentions of our Founding Fathers and, perhaps, personal memories and sentiments related to our citizenship in this country.  At a time when the current President of our Country asks people for a “loyalty pledge,” we gathered at Fairview Park City Hall to reaffirm our belief in the values of the Democratic Party and its Candidates on the local, state, and national level.

Elected Officials present were Peggy Cleary, City Leader for Fairview Park, Armand Budish, Cuyahoga County Executive, and Chris Glassburn, North Olmsted City Councilman. Another “newly-elected” person attending was Baldwin Wallace University College Democrats President, Anthony Kukura!

Connie Pillich, the only woman running for the Office of Ohio Governor, presented her background and qualifications for this job, and outlined particulars of her plans and hopes to provide leadership, change, and new hope for Ohioans.   After her remarks, members of the audience of nearly 50 people, posed questions for Connie, to which she provided a ready and convincing response.

Following Connie Pillich, we heard self-introductions from a variety of Candidates on all levels.  Some were new visitors to our Club meeting including:  William Vodrey (Common Please Court), Armand Budish  ( (re-election-County Executive), Grant Goodrich (16th Congressional District), and Dennis Kucinich (Ohio Governor).  Returning Candidates were: Cassimir Svigelj (State Representative – District 16), Bill McGinty (Judge), TJ Mulloy (Congress – 16th District), Ashley Kilbane (Common Pleas), Michael Rendon (Common Pleas), Andrea Nelson-Moore (Common Pleas), Andrew Santoli (Common Pleas) , Jennifer O’Malley (Juvenile Court), Deborah Turner (Common Pleas) and Karrie D. Howard (Common Pleas).

Kevin Rainbolt, member of our Club, and Lead Software Engineer at GE Aviation Systems, gave a brief introduction and overview about our newly created Club website.  We express our gratitude to Kevin for so generously volunteering his time and talent to create and maintain this tool for our ongoing communication and information exchange!

Judy Meinert’s Club Announcements included two takeaways for Action Steps in February 2018 and for Action Step Contacts.

Vice-President Gail Nanowsky gave the Treasurer’s Report and the 50/50 Raffle winner was Bill McGinty! Bridget King and Felicita Sanchez won Raffle prizes provided by Candidates William Vodrey and Pablo Castro.
