After moving to Fairview Park in 2001, Peggy Cleary became a member of the Fairview Park Democratic Club and served as an officer in the club from approximately 2002-2012. She ran for and was elected to Fairview Park City Council-at-Large seat in 2005 and has been re-elected to serve in subsequent elections. She is the current Chair of the Finance Committee.
Peggy has served as a member of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Executive Committee and Precinct Committee from approximately 2002-2016. She was appointed and/or elected to these positions shortly after moving to Fairview Park and was removed from those committees following her move from Ward 3-B to Ward 3-C in July 2016. She also served on those two committees while residing in Lakewood from approximately 1990-2001. She has a long history of political involvement and activism dating back to 1980’s. In 1991, she served as the campaign manager for Bob Seelie’s successful campaign for Lakewood City Council and served in that capacity where he won all four of his elections for City Council.
Peggy also also ran for State Representative from the 16th district in 2010 and lost in the primary election. She has a long history of working on political campaigns at the local, state and national level performing tasks that include organizing and attending fundraisers, canvassing for candidates, assisting with lit drops, designing literature and working the polls on election day.
